As of November 2019 grocery delivery has started for 5 families monthly, and you can help. Contact Laney Waughtel or visit the bulletin board outside the church office for more information.

FROM LANEY:

In 2018 I decided to go on a mission trip to Costa Rica with my church, Mount Olivet UMC. A few months later, I was riding home with my mom after school one day I told her, I wanted to personally do something for the people of Costa Rica, she told me to email, my team leaders. So, I talked to my team leaders and God laid an idea on my heart to raise money for grocery bags. At first, I was just planning to raise a little bit of money for groceries. I wasn’t expecting it to turn into a big deal. I started out with a goal of 20 bags, well God had a bigger number planned. Yes, I asked if people would like to donate money but I truly feel like I didn’t do this. This was God.

I was amazed and shocked by the generous amounts of money I was receiving from my family, friends, and church. God was still wanting a higher number, I raised more money through the next week or so before I left for the trip. I ended up raising over $2,000. I can not explain the feeling of having the support, generosity, and love I was receiving from everyone.

It was also really fun seeing God work through us while in Costa Rica. Well, we went to this one house that was made out of tin and scraped up concrete. I had about seven people walking up to this house with me, there was one lady there at the time since everyone was out working. There were three families living there, including her own. As she was making these prayer request she started crying, she said she prayed last night for a blessing and the next day we came with groceries. This changed my perspective on life, it made me realize how much I take for granted. I want to give people hope, I want them to stop worrying about feeding their family or paying for hospital bills. This program is to stop families from having to choose between groceries and bills, in the end, I want them to tell me they no longer need free groceries because we gave them hope and they don’t need us anymore.

Since 2004 Strong Missions has worked within communities of the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Past construction projects include churches, public schools, homes for the poor, orphanages, children’s parks, and additional projects requested by local community leaders. The involvement in community development projects has grown to include various year-round feeding, education, and extracurricular activity programs. One hundred percent of these community empowerment programs are run on donations, both from inside Costa Rica and from people such as you. We hope that you will prayerfully consider partnering with us in this work.
